RE: Observation

Ado Vis for Mexican liability. You can do it all online and fax. We carry full replacement on our Dutch Star with National Interstate. For $5 extra, both include Mexico. We had an accident with a post in a cg in Port Angel and damaged both the coach, $4,300 and the toad $1,800. Since they were attached at the time we only had to pay the $1,000 deductible on the coach and they paid the $4,100. Sent them photos and I sent photos also to La Mesa RV in Tucson so they had everything when we arrrived there two months later.
Second time we have had a claim in five years with National Interstate, the last one, in Newfoundland, and they were just as good handling it.

RE: Insurance question on Class A DP

SD has second lowest coach insurance rates in the country. We really like National Interstate, good rates and settle claims with no arguement or delay. They include coverage in MX. Doomicile in SD has really paid off for us as fulltimers.
Check Alternative Resorces on the net and Dougherty Insurance agncy in Sioux Fall. Paul at Alternative can walk you through it.

RE: Gas prices cash/credit or debit card

We always fill at Flying J where possible. Have the Flying J card, good for 1 cent per gallon and get the cash price at the truck filling area and always use the regular American Express Card I have had since 1977 and they give us the cash price. Always less than what reads on the truck pump. Diesel

Not nearly as much as the salt on the roads in the northeast in winter.

RE: Pacific Coast Hwy 1 & Hwy 101

WE LIKE FOLLOWING THE HIGHWAY AS CLOSE TO THE OCEAN AS POSSIBLE. TURNS AND HILLS ARE NO PROBLEM FOR US IN A 40' TOWING THE SPORTRAC.
LOTS EASIER THAN TRAVELING SOME OF THE ROADS IN MX, BUT WE DO THEM TOO.

RE: What do you fill up storage compartments with?

We have fulltimed in a class A 40' for 5-1/2 years. Bays are pretty full. DW's crafts, quilts, 2 sewing machines, extra filters, oil, antifreeze, tools, BBQ, table, chairs, windshield screens, 2 complete wardrobes for the two of us for all climates and weather changes as we have traveled all 48 plus Alaska, Canadaian Maritimes including Newfoundland and all of Mexico as far as the Belize border.Coach has limit of 32,000 lbs and we stay about 1,000 under that. We do carry a spare tire on the roof as matching tires are hard to find in MX and other out of the way places. Haven't found a place yet where we would want to stay more than 2 weeks max.
Tow a Ford Sportrac and carry mu handicap scooter in bed of truck.

RE: Selling house, buying TT

Heading out from Eufaula, AL for the RGV on Dec.1. Everything ready to go. Have rough itinerary for the next year including Alaska. Only one hitch, sure would like to sell the house and all the furnishings. 2 BR big fenced yard, 30 Amp hook up. Mild climaate, pre civil war town. Totally updated house. Mild climate, low taxes. Huge Wallace Lake a block away. Excellent fishing. This is our last chance, 80th birthday just around the corner, just renewed driver license for 5 years, after that, who cares?

RE: Curiosity...for Southern States

If you are looking for probably the warmest and best weather, it's in south Florida. We spent 3 winters at Vacation Inn Resort in West Palm Beach. Nicest park we have stayed in fulltiming for 6 years, excellent facilities, heated pools, club houses, tennis courts , you name it, beautiful grounds.
The down side. Winter rent is $1,650 per month. All lots are owner lots. There are about 30 for sale in the $139K area, dues about $2,100 a year, FL real estate tax about $900 and you can count on an assessment in the area of $500 every other year. Lots of English speakng Canadians and lots of French Canadians and for the most part they don't seem to like each other and a lot of the Americans don't care for some of the Canadians, especially the French Canadians.
Overall, not a very friendly place.
Restaurants, food stores etc are much higher priced than RGV. FL has a high sales tax. Traffic in the area is horrendous.
We sold our lot at a profit before the bottom fell out.
Parks in Port St. Lucie, and Naples cost as much or more.
Best weather anywhere we have ever been.

RE: What do you do when you don't have a physical address?

EASY. Check out 'Alternative Resources' website. Call Paul and he can walk you through it. Handles, registration, mail etc. Tell him Sixpence recommended him. We have used him for over 5 years.Dougherty Insurance is next door(2nd cheapest state in the union for RV insurance and it covers you in Mexico, and driver license bureau next to it. If you want to set up wills, living wills etc we like Gary Conklin at Conklin Law Offices, all in Sioux Falls.

RE: Toilet riser height

Leave it alone, when you get older or heavier and the knees don't work so well you will appreciate the extra height. I ordered our coach with handicap john, Newmar just put in a riser about 4" high and tiled it and set the john. Great!

RE: Another Newmar nightmare !!!!!!

Stupid is as stupid does. We have the same coach. We had a 3 year warranty and several times made appointments through Phil Stilley listing needed repairs, never paid a penny and they were always more than gracious. They have their techs at all Newmar International rallies and take care of all problems, no charge if under warranty, sometimes no charge out of warranty. Just call Jonas at Newmar before the rally and tell him what you need fixed. They will do up to 4 items, more if time permits. You knew there was a 3 year warranty why would you expect warranty work 3 years out of warranty? The previous owner must have been blind or just didn't care about his coach.
When this economy hits bottom, Newmar will still be there as they operate a cash business, not like other manufacturers who in real credit problems, not paying their suppliers and they will be bottom up.
We had carpet on floor but dogs had worn it badly so my wife and a friend ripped out the carpet and installed a wood floor in one day in all of the coach except the bedroom. Got it at Home Depot. Love the wood floor.

RE: Gulf Coast vs. West Coast

Last winter we circumnavigated MX, crossing at Brownsville, TX, down the Emerald or Gulf coast, to Cancun to Paa Mul, up to San Cristobal, over the mountains to the Pacific coast at Port Angel, then on north to Acapulco, PV, Mazatlan, San Carlos and re=entered at Nogales.
Biggest difference between east and west coast is price. Everything was more costly on the west coast. With the high cost of diesel last winter 95% of the CG's and RV Parks had plenty of spaces availaable with the exception of Paa Mul and La Penita. With the current exchange rate, 13.5 pesos to the dollar, Mexico will be packed. Many seasonal places already sold out. Many Canadians do the 6 month thing and are already there. Check out the website ontheroadin. We had perfect weather the whole 3 months. Electricity never totally reliable but better on the west coast. Our Data Storm Moto Sat gave us internet everywhere we were. From PV north on the Pacific coast it seems there are more gringoes than Mexicans. We like it all, also the interior historic citiies like San Migel Allende, El Fuerte take the Copper Canyon train trip and leave the rig with Bill in El Fueert, his significant other will care for your animals you can leave in the rig. More flat water on the east, more waves on the west.

Datastorm Moto Sat, old Toshiba, new Dell Vostra

We have had a Data Storm Motosat for several years, 7000 modem and using a Toshiba Sattelite with a Windows Connection. In April we bought a new Dell Vostra 1700 and while in Beaudry, Bill Adams set up the new laptop Windows connection. A few days ago I accidently clicked on the Dell icon which appears to have broken our Windows connection and switched us to Dell which we don't like. A friend got us to Linksys which we also do not want. With our old Windows connection and the Datastorm Motosat we always had a strong signal from the Belize Border to Alaska and from CA to ME.
We have been unable to get back to our original connection.
Any help would be appreciated or PM me. Thanks

RE: Washer\Dryer testimonials

My wife wouldn't part with her Whirlpool Dryer and front loader washer for anything. We have friends with the onepiece that does both and they are all envious of how much wash she can wash and dry in 1/5th the time they with the onepiece. We are fulltimers and sometimes when I run the generator for an hour she can wash and dry a load. Sometimes she has a washed load in the dryer drying, a load washing in the washer and enough time to dry it.

RE: Windows Mail - Hiding Addressees

When you send an email to a number of people showing the names or email addresses it makes it possible for anyone receiving the email to get the email address of anyone on the email, some recipients might not like that.

RE: Annapolis MD.

You do not want to attend the boat show on Sat. or Sun. It is so packed you will not see it all in one day. You cannot take an auto down into town near the boat show. You park the car at the Naval Academy football stadium and buses run continually back and forth to the show. If you are coming from the east on 50/301 you will pass Beach Harbor RV Resort and there are spaces with full hook ups.
phone number 410 827 7173. Best to call Tue through Thurs between nine and four. To drive to the show go west, across the bay bridge to Rowe Blvd and go south staying in the right lane and you will see the stadium on your right. The prices on power boats are way down, sailboat prices are holding. If you are looking at Catalina, ask for Dave Ewing, tell him sixpence recommended him.
Have fun. Lived on a sailboat 7 years and a trawler 2 years before RVing.

RE: Suggestions for winter in Tampa area

Search RV Park Hunter-Florida. If you stay there, save up some bucks and eat in the best steak house in the U.S. Burns Steak House Be sure when you get there to also reserve space in the dessert room for after dinner.
